Wedding: Sudeshan and Prandhana

Documenting a wedding is one of the most difficult and rewarding things to do as a photographer. For me telling a story is an art form and creating memories through moments is what I obsess about on a daily basis. I see moments between people everywhere and this drive to continuously find a more artistic and creative way to tell a story is what I do! When I document a wedding, I find no 2 weddings are the same and this inspires me to create a unique story for each couple. Shrimant(Godh Bharai Rasam) – Ashika

First attempt at documenting a Shrimant(Godh Bharai Rasam) which is a traditional Indian celebration for the arrival of a new baby. The literal meaning is to fill the lap. The expecting mom is dressed like a bride and the friends and family bless the new mom-to-be with gifts - token cash and saree or jewellery in the case of close relatives. Traditionally, no gifts are given for the baby—only the mom. Everyone puts “tikka” (vermilion) on the mom’s forehead, prays for her and the baby’s wellbeing, followed by the aarti.
